The Map gives you offline access to the entire UK and Ireland with just one download¹ with full support for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
The Map allows you to:
- Access maps offline for the UK and Ireland. After the initial download there is no need to access any network. This even works in airplane mode.
- Quickly access maps as all the data is on your device - no need to use the slow cellular network²
- Search for any place in the UK or Ireland. This works for villages, towns, cities and more.
- Use the inbuilt GPS of the iPhone or iPad 3G to find and follow your own position on the map³.
How does it work?
We compress OpenStreetMap's data for the UK and Ireland (currently 2.6 GB) by about 14x so it doesn't take up too much space on your device.
¹ The data is obtained from Geofabrik who chop up OpenStreetMap's data into distinct countries.
² When the application starts for the first time, all the data for Great Britain is downloaded. After that, the application never needs the network.
³ This feature is not available on the iPod Touch or iPad WiFi
